The design for the entrance at Portland State Universities Fariborz
Meseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics takes its directions from the complex graphical order of algebra. By assigning the existing architectural features of the space as known entities, and creating dependent forces acting between them, the new facade is a re-actional expression of the existing space and the ideas being sought within it. The sub-structure consists of CNC milled 3/4” plywood weaved together and bolted at the existing wall and at its joints. The facade is 10 mil wood veneer mechanically fastened directly to the sub-structure.
Maupin, Oregon
The Mopin house is a private residence for a pilot located in Maupin Oregon. The design is based on the relationships between the existing topography and the native american fishing platform used near the site at Sherars Falls. The house sits into the ground perpendicular to Buck Hollow Creek and intentionally fuses the organic & technological ideologies at play. By presenting an imposed environment based on formal and material synergy derived from yet contrasting with the existing site conditions, the house becomes one with the natural environment.
The H_Chair focuses on the digital design and fabrication of a piece of furniture through utilizing only one sheet of 48" x 96" x 3/4" plywood and a CNC machine. The chair is designed using two main movements; an curved seat and an curved back. By using the same radial dimension in both movements, the chair is designed to fold into itself at a singular hinge point joining the two movements.
